VENEZUELA

Founded in Caracas, Venezuela 1955 by Jesuit priest, Jose Maria Velaz, Fe y Alegria is a federation of local NGOs which offer educational opportunities to the poorest sectors of society, along with teacher training and educational radio.  Today Fe y Alegria operates in 19 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.  Its successful model advances the tradition of Jesuit education, promoting “cura personalis -- care of the entire person.” Led by the charismatic Noelbis Aguilar, who has devoted more than 30 years to the educational needs of families in Caracas, Fe y Alegria Venezuela manages primary, secondary, college and technical schools for more than 100,000 young people.  An additional three million people access news, educational content, advocacy, and evangelization through the agency’s 25 radio stations.
